Our MBA programme focuses on developing future business leaders with soft and hard skills and competencies to deal with the constantly changing business environment. The programme equips students with multidisciplinary knowledge and perspectives and develops their ability to lead flexible, responsive, responsible, efficient and effective organizations in the era of globalization. The strength of our programme is the embedment of the elements of internationalisation and experiential learning into the teaching and learning process via extensive use of case studies and engagement of corporate leaders, who are also our adjunct faculty members. Entrance into the programme is competitive where a minimum of 3 years relevant work experience is required. Being the most popular and sought after MBA programme in the country, there are more than 1200 students currently enrolled in various MBA modes and specializations. A combination of current strengths and comprehensive future plans make OYA Graduate School of Business ranked no. 22 in the 2011 World Top 30 Rising MBA Stars by FindyourMBA.

In tandem with the School's mission, the MBA programme aims to produce graduates who are flexible, responsive, efficient and effective in managing organisation in the era of globalisation. To realise the aim of the programme, the following programme objectives have been identified:

  1. to support training and development of knowledge workers, who are equipped with current skills like information technology;
  2. to provide students with a comprehensive set of skills and in-depth knowledge of management disciplines that will allow them to be innovative and global in outlook; and
  3. to raise the effectiveness of managerial performance by developing analytical skills and judgement.

Our MBA program is designed in such a manner so that participants who go through the program will be able to perform the following:

  1. Integrate and apply advanced business knowledge and skills in managing organizations.
  2. Apply technical and psychomotor skills within the organization toward the accomplishment of business objectives and goals.
  3. Exercise analytical ability and apply social considerations when making business decisions.
  4. Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with different stakeholders.
  5. Develop social skills and demonstrate social responsibilities when working in a team.
  6. Demonstrate professionalism and compliance to ethical standards in executing accountabilities and responsibilities.
  7. Create lifelong learning culture by usinginformation and communication technology to keep abreast with the changing business environment.
  8. Exhibit managerial and entrepreneurial skills for effective decision making.
  9. Portray leadership qualities in managing a business strategically.

Applicants for Master of Business Administration (MBA) programme must possess the following:

  1. A Bachelor's degree from Universiti Utara Malaysia or any other institutions of higher learning recognised by the University Senate with a CGPA of at least 2.75; and
  2. At least three (3) years of relevant work experience; and
  3. Fulfill English Language requirement.

International applicants should meet any one of the following English requirements before they are accepted for admission into the programmes. Students must obtain:

  1. Minimum score in the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
    1. 550 in the TOEFL Paper Based Test; or
    2. 213 in the TOEFL Computer Based Test; or
    3. 80 in the TOEFL Internet Based Test; or

      OR

  2. Students must obtain not less than 6.0 in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS); or
    1. obtain a degree from any Countries with English Language Education System (i.e. Anguilla, Antigua & Barbuda, Australia, Bahamas, Barbados, Bermuda, Botswana, British Indian Ocean Territory, British Virgin Islands, Cameroon, Canada, Cayman Island, Dominica, Falkland Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, Gambia, Ghana, Gibraltar, Grenada, Guam, Guernsey, Guyana, India, Ireland, Isle of Man, Jamaica, Jersey, Kenya, Kiribati, Lesotho, Liberia, Madagascar, Malta, Marshall Islands, Mauritius, Montserrat, Namibia, Nauru, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Rwanda, Saint Helena, Saint Kitts & Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Samoa, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Singapore, Solomon Islands, South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania, Trinidad & Tobago, Turks and Caicos Islands, U.S Virgin Islands, Uganda, United Kingdom, USA, Zambia, and Zimbabwe)
    2. A degree from any Public University in Malaysia with English as a language of instruction.

      OR

  3. If students do not meet any of the above English requirements, they must sit for the English Language Placement Test (ELPT), which will be conducted by the UUM Language Centre, and obtain a Band 6 passing grade before they are allowed to register for courses or continue with their programmes of study.

**If students fail the ELPT, they must attend the Intensive English Course for International Students for at least one semester and obtain a passing grade before they are allowed to register for courses.

How many intakes are there in an academic year?
UUM Sintok Campus (on-campus): Two intakes: February and September
Off- campuses: Three intakes: January, May, and September

Is this programme offered on a full-time or part-time basis?
If you intend to study on-campus, you can do it either on a full-time or a part-time basis. If you do it off-campus, the programme is offered only on a part-time basis.

When is the deadline of my application?
Generally speaking, the deadline of application is three months for local and international applicants, from the date of academic enrollment.

Is this a coursework or by research programme?
Our MBA programme is conducted by coursework. Students are required to complete a total of 42 credit hours or 14 courses throughout their study. The suggested study plan can be referred here.

When do the classes meet?

On-campus: Classes are conducted on weekdays and weekends. The weekday classes are generally for full-time students while weekend classes are to cater for working adults. Classes normally start from 9.00 am until 9.00 pm.
Off-campuses: Classes are conducted on weekends, i.e. on Saturdays and Sundays. The classes normally start from 9.00 am until 9.00 pm.

How many subjects do I have to take? Do I have to write a thesis? How are marks allocated?
There are 14 subjects you need to take and you are not required to write a thesis. Marks are allocated based on coursework assignments and final examination. In general, the coursework carries 60% of the total marks allocated. Another 40% is normally allocated for final examination.
