Admission Procedures - How to Apply

Welcome to the Online Postgraduate Application Form at Othman Yeop Abdullah Graduate School of Business, Universiti Utara Malaysia.

Applicants must provide all the required information and UPLOAD the following documents in the system:

1. Personal details
    a) Certified true copy of Identity Card (Malaysian applicant)/ front page of passport (international applicant)
    b) Latest passport-size colored photograph

2. Academic background
    - Certified true copy of Bachelor’s/Master’s/Doctoral degree and full academic transcript

3. Employment detail
    - Certified true copy of confirmation letter from employee/proof of current position

4. Working experience
    - Certified true copy of employment letter/proof of previous working experience

5. Professional qualification
    - Certified true copy of professional certificate

6. English proficiency qualification
    - Certified true copy of MUET/IELTS/TOEFL certificate

7. Financial
    - Financial support guarantee letter/ latest bank account statement

8. Field of research
    - Research proposal

9. Others
    a) Proof of payment for processing
              • Malaysian applicant: RM100.00/ application
              • Applicant from ASEAN country: RM125.00 @ USD35.00/ application
              • Applicant from Non-ASEAN country: RM175.00 @ USD50.00/ application

    b) Working permit (for international applicant who wish to study in part-time basis)

Please note that applicants will be notified through EMAIL regarding the status of application. Applicants can also check their application status at ADMISSION APPLICATION STATUS ENQUIRY (http://pgapp.uum.edu.my/pre_register/index.aspx) by entering the identity card or passport number.

Processing Fees

      1. Applicant is required to pay processing fee for each application:

• Malaysian : RM100.00
• ASEAN Country : RM125.00 @ USD35.00*
• Non ASEAN Country : RM175.00 @ USD50.00*
*Payment in USD only applicable for payment made from outside Malaysia

      2. Proof of payment must be enclosed in application

      3. Payment must be put in favour of Universiti Utara Malaysia via any of the following method:

i. Cash payment at Bursar Department, UUM Sintok, Kedah; OR
ii. Online payment via e-commerce via https://e-com.uum.edu.my; OR
iii. At any Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad (BIMB) branch. Specify payee code 340 under column “Pay For” on Bill Payment Slip; OR
iv. Telegraph Transfer (for payment made outside Malaysia):

Admission & English Requirement

Applicants for the Master's Programme under the Othman Yeop Abdullah Graduate School of Business & UUM College of Business must possess the following conditions:

MASTER OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION (MBA)

a) A bachelor’s degree from Universiti Utara Malaysia or any other institutions of higher learning recognised by the University Senate with a CGPA of at least 2.75 and have at least three (3) years of work experience relevant to the chosen area of specialisation; or

b) A bachelor’s degree from Universiti Utara Malaysia or any other institutions of higher learning recognised by the University Senate with a CGPA of less than 2.75 and have at least five (5) years of relevant work experience may be considered, subject to the interview by Postgraduate Committee; or

c) A diploma from any institutions of higher learning recognised by the University Senate with at least ten (10) years of relevant work experience, 35 years or older and passed APEL assessment (level 7); and

d) fulfil the English language requirement as set by the University Senate.

MASTER PROGRAMMES OTHER THAN MBA

a) A bachelor’s degree from Universiti Utara Malaysia or any other institutions of higher learning recognised by the University Senate with a CGPA of at least 2.75; or

b) A bachelor’s degree from Universiti Utara Malaysia or any other institutions of higher learning recognised by the University Senate with a CGPA of less than 2.75 and have at least five (5) years of relevant work experience may be considered, subject to the interview by Postgraduate Committee; or

c) A diploma from any institutions of higher learning recognised by the University Senate with at least ten (10) years of relevant work experience, 35 years or older and passed APEL assessment (level 7); and

d) fulfil the English language requirement as set by the University Senate.

DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY (PhD)

a) a master’s degree from Universiti Utara Malaysia or any other institutions of higher learning recognised by the University Senate. For a master degree with CGPA, the minimum CGPA is 3.00; or

b) any other equivalent qualifications recognised by the University Senate; and

c) fulfil the English language requirement as set by the University Senate.

Other requirements for PhD:

i)      The application through agent is not accepted.
        (The application through agent can only apply for coursework programme)

ii)     The applicants should attach a motivational letter and research proposal. For those who are short listed will be called for an interview session.

iii)    The applicants must propose supervisors’ name who have already agreed with the research topic. Applications without supervisors’ name will not be processed

DOCTOR OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION (DBA)

a) a master’s degree from Universiti Utara Malaysia or any other institutions of higher learning recognised by the University Senate or any other equivalent qualifications recognised by the University Senate; and

b) have a minimum of five (5) years of work experience relevant to the chosen area of specialisation; and

c) fulfil the English language requirement as set by the University Senate.

OR

a) Senior Managers with a bachelor’s degree from any institutions of higher learning recognised by the University Senate with at least ten (10) years of relevant work experience and passed APEL assessment (level 8).

All international candidates should meet any one of the following English language requirements set by the University before they are accepted for admission.

i. Candidates must obtain:
    a. 550 in the TOEFL Paper Based Test; or
    b. 80 in the TOEFL Internet Based Test;

                OR

ii. Must obtain not less than 6.0 in the IELTS;

                OR

iii. Obtain a degree from any countries with English language Education System (i.e. Anguilla, Antigua & Barbuda, Australia, Bahamas, Barbados, Bermuda, Botswana, British Indian Ocean Territory, British Virgin Islands, Cameroon, Canada, Cayman Island, Dominica, Falkland Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, Gambia, Ghana, Gibraltar, Grenada, Guam, Guernsey, Guyana, India, Ireland, Isle of Man, Jamaica, Jersey, Kenya, Kiribati, Lesotho, Liberia, Madagascar, Malta, Marshall Islands, Mauritius, Montserrat, Namibia, Nauru, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Rwanda, Saint Helena, Saint Kitts & Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Samoa, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Singapore, Solomon Islands, South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania, Trinidad & Tobago, Turks and Caicos Islands, U.S Virgin Islands, Uganda, United Kingdom, USA, Zambia, and Zimbabwe);

  OR

iv. A degree from any Public University in Malaysia with English as a language of instruction;

  OR

v. A degree from any Private University or College University in Malaysia that are listed in Malaysian Qualifications Register (MQR).

Students who do not meet any of the above English language requirements must attend the Intensive English Language Course for International Students for at least one semester and obtain a passing grade before they are allowed to register for postgraduate programme.
