UUM ONLINE: In line with the tagline ‘We Are Global’, the denizens of Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) Kuala Lumpur Campus (UUMKL) and Othman Yeop Abdudllah Graduate School of Business (OYAGSB) have been urged to realize the aspiration of the University to transform UUMKL and OYAGSB to become the Crown Jewels of UUM.

According to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato’ Dr. Ahmad Bashawir Abdul Ghani, creating a renowned brand and internationalising both UUMKL and OYAGSB were the ways to elevate the UUM brand.  In doing so, the aspiration of transforming the said entities to become the Crown Jewels of UUM can be made possible within two years.

He further reiterated that the aspiration was in tandem with the authorisation given by the Malaysian government to allow international students to return to campus from as early as January while adhering to the standard operating procedures (SOP).

He said this after the he presented the Key Office Bearers of UUMKL and OYGSB with their respective Letters of Appointment.  Among the recipients were the Academic Dean of UUMKL, Assoc. UUM ONLINE: Pengarah Bahagian Pembangunan Modal Insan, Jabatan Perkhidmatan Awam (JPA), Dato’ Dr. Zulkapli Mohamed telah mengadakan kunjungan ke UUM Kampus Kuala Lumpur (UUMKL) dan Othman Yeop Abdullah Graduate School of Business (OYAGSB), baru-baru ini.

Kehadiran delegasi JPA disambut oleh Dekan Hal Ehwal Akademik UUMKL, Prof. Madya Dr. Norlena Hasnan dan Timbalan Dekan OYAGSB, Prof. Madya Dr. Sabariah Yaacob serta pegawai-pegawai kanan UUMKL dan OYAGSB.

Dato’ Dr. Zulkapli berkata, lawatan itu bertujuan melihat kemudahan pengajaran dan pembelajaran yang disediakan UUMKL terutamanya bagi menampung keperluan pembelajaran oleh calon penerima tajaan dari JPA.

“JPA berhasrat untuk bekerjasama dengan UUMKL terutamanya bagi menghantar staf JPA yang terdiri dari Pegawai Tadbir dan Diplomatik untuk menyambung pengajian di UUMKL,” katanya yang teruja melihat kemudahan pembelajaran dan pengajaran yang terdapat di UUMKL dan OYAGSB.

Sementara itu, Yang Menjalankan Tugas Provos UUMKL, Prof. Dr. Hassan Abu Bakar merangkap Dekan OYAGSB mengalu-alukan kehadiran rombongan dari JPA melalui Webex memandangkan beliau berada di Sintok.

Menurutnya, pihaknya telah bersedia menerima pelajar tajaan JPA, malah telah bersedia dari segi silibus pengajian dan kemudahan logistik yang ada.

Di UUMKL dan OYAGSB terdapat 24 bilik yang mampu memuatkan pelajar 40 hingga 80 orang, dewan peperiksaan berkapasiti 200 orang, perpustakaan dan makmal komputer, selain kemudahan bilik mesyuarat, perbincangan dan surau yang sedia untuk digunakan.

UUM ONLINE: Mulai 3 Januari ini, Othman Yeop Abdullah Graduate School of Business (OYAGSB) akan memulakan operasi ke lokasi baharu di Menara 2, Jalan Raja Muda Abd Aziz, Kampung Baru, Kuala Lumpur.

Dekan OYAGSB, Prof. Dr. Hassan Abu Bakar berkata, bagi melancarkan operasi perpindahan OYAGSB itu, semua staf terlibat telah memulakan kerja-kerja perpindahan fail penting dan juga aset OYAGSB melalui tiga fasa.

“Fasa pertama yang melibatkan aset-aset penting telah dilaksanakan pada 6 Disember lalu, diikuti fasa kedua pada 29 Disember yang melibatkan proses pemindahan rekod fail yang berkaitan pentadbiran dan akademik serta pemindahan aset OYAGSB.

“Fasa ketiga dijangka akan dilakukan pada Januari 2021 yang akan melibatkan proses akhir perpindahan aset dan proses perpindahan ini diketuai oleh Akauntan OYAGSB, Noraidani Ismail dengan dibantu oleh staf pusat pengajian ini,” katanya.

Prof. Dr. Hassan berkata, perpindahan operasi utama OYAGSB dari Sintok ke Kuala Lumpur adalah seiring dengan tujuan penjenamaan semula OYAGSB ke arah Top Business School yang menekankan penyampaian perkhidmatan cemerlang dan menjadi sebuah sekolah perniagaan yang lebih dinamik dan progresif.

Menurutnya, buat masa ini, lebih 85 peratus pelajar OYAGSB berada di Kuala Lumpur dan statistik ini menunjukkan bahawa perpindahan ke sana adalah satu strategi dan langkah yang munasabah.

Katanya, lokasi di Kuala Lumpur juga akan memudahkan OYAGSB untuk memberikan perkhidmatan yang lebih baik kepada pelajar dan pelanggannya.

“Kejayaan OYAGSB disenaraikan dalam QS World University Rankings (QSWUR): Global MBA 2021 dengan berada di kedudukan ke-201+ pada peringkat dunia dan tangga ke-27 terbaik di Asia adalah sebagai titik permulaan untuk terus bergerak ke hadapan dalam merealisasikan misi berstatus Triple Crown serta Top Business School,” katanya.

UUM ONLINE: “Hidup mesti ada integriti, maruah dan keberanian untuk menyatakan kebenaran ('intellectual bravery’), selain gembira dengan apa yang kita lakukan dan menjiwai perjuangan sebagai akademia,” kata Prof. Dr. Rosna Awang Hashim dari Pusat Pengajian Pendidikan dan Bahasa Moden (SEML).

Menurutnya, apa yang berlaku sama ada menerima kenaikan pangkat atau tidak, semuanya atas kehendak Allah dan yang pasti ada hikmah kerana beliau percaya Allah sebaik-baik perancang.

Beliau berkata demikian selepas menerima kenaikan pangkat Profesor (VK6) pada Penyampaian Watikah Kenaikan Pangkat Staf Akademik di Bilik Mesyuarat Senat, baru-baru ini.

Prof. Dr. Rosna berkata, beliau bersyukur kerana menerima watikah kenaikan pangkat yang disifatkan sebagai satu pengiktirafan kepada profesor dan ahli akademik yang menjadi satu hadiah istimewa setelah 31 tahun menabur bakti bersama UUM.

“Sebagai ahli akademik, kita tidak perlu tunggu kenaikan pangkat sebaliknya berterusan memberi khidmat bakti tanpa syarat dan yang penting bagaimana kehadiran profesor dirasai serta boleh memberi manfaat bukan sahaja kepada UUM tetapi juga kepada komuniti dan seluruh warga global,” katanya.

Tambahnya, beliau masih mempunyai 4 tahun lagi untuk bersama UUM, justeru beliau sedia untuk berbakti kepada masyarakat demi memajukan agama, bangsa dan negara. 

Sementara itu, Prof. Dr. Mohd Zaini Abd Karim dari Othman Yeop Abdullah Graduate School of Business (OYAGSB) merakamkan ucapan penghargaan kepada UUM di atas kenaikan pangkat sebagai Profesor Gred VK6.

Menurutnya, dengan kenaikan pangkat itu diharapkan dapat menambah semangat rakan-rakan staf akademik dan pentadbiran dalam menjalankan tugas serta memberi sumbangan untuk terus membangunkan UUM.

Katanya, beliau bertekad untuk menjalankan tugas dengan penuh dedikasi, sentiasa meningkatkan usaha, prestasi, penyelidikan serta memberikan hasil kerja terbaik.

Bagi Pengarah Institut Pembangunan Keusahawanan dan Koperasi (CEDI), Prof. Dr. Chandrakantan Subramaniam, penerimaan watikah ini juga satu pengiktirafan kepada warga akademik yang banyak menyumbang kepada pengembangan ilmu sekali gus membantu staf untuk terus cemerlang dan menjadikan UUM lebih ‘visible’.

“Untuk merealisasikan hasrat itu, kita harus fokus kepada pengajian atas talian dan menekankan aspek keusahawanan sebagai salah satu sumber kerjaya pada masa hadapan.

“Tambahan pula dalam keadaan pandemik Covid-19, kita dapat melihat banyak syarikat ditutup, pengangguran pekerjaan termasuk di kalangan mahasiswa meningkat maka kita harus memperkasakan bidang keusahawanan dalam mendepani cabaran ini,” katanya yang menerima kenaikan pangkat dari Prof. Madya ke Profesor VK7.

PROMOTED ACADEMIC STAFF URGED TO ENHANCE TECHNOLOGICAL KNOWLEDGE

UUM ONLINE: The Budget 2021 which was tabled recently is set to bring about immense benefits to Malaysians, particularly students studying at Institutions of Higher Learning when the broadband services are increased to the best possible level.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dato' Dr Ahmad Bashawir Abdul Ghani said during the recent tabling of Budget 2021, the government introduced eight initiatives to help students and the marketability of graduates.

Among them, the issuance of vouchers, improving infrastructure, implementing Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and Lifelong Learning programmes.

"Most interestingly, the communication network is considered as a third entity which plays an important role to the country in addition to water and electricity.

"Communication network will be intensified as a third utility in line with the government's efforts of allocating MYR500 million next year to implement the National Digital Network (JENDELA) initiative to enhance the country's digital network initiative covering more

than 430 schools throughout Malaysia," he said at the Presentation of Letters of Promotion to Academic Staff Ceremony at the Senate Room.

He said UUM was also in the works of setting up the Centre for the Studies of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) to drive the country's higher education in line with the country's aspiration of becoming an education hub.

At the same time, the Vice-Chancellor also extended his heartiest congratulations to the newly promoted academic staff and expressed hope that their exuberance and commitment towards UUM will continue to flourish and further develop UUM into becoming the

Eminent Management University.

According to him, UUM made history as many of its academic staff were being promoted. It also showed that UUM was maturing. The university would not have been able to develop to what it is now, had it not been for the help and support given by the fellow academics and administrators.

At the ceremony, a total of 30 academic staff namely Prof. Dr. Rosna Awang Hashim, Prof. Dr. Mohd Zaini Abd Karim, Prof. Dr. Nur Adiana Hiau Abdullah, and Prof. Dr. Shahimi Mohtar received their letters of promotion as Professor (VK6).

Other academic staff who received their promotion as Professor (VK7) include Prof. Dr. Chandrakantan Subramaniam, Prof. Dr. Fauziah Abdul Rahim, Prof. Dr. Abdul Halim Abdul Majid, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Fuad, Prof. Dr. Maznah Mat Kasim, Prof. Dr. Ram Al Jaffri Saad, Prof. Dr. Lim Hock Eam and Prof. Dr. Nurwati Ashikkin Ahmad Zaluki.

Apart from that, at the same ceremony, the Deputy Bursar, Mr Abdul Roni Baharom also received his letter of promotion to grade W54.

OYAGSB MBA PROGRAMME PRODUCES SIX ‘CHARTERED MANAGERS’ CMI

FINAL CONGRAT

UUM ONLINE: A total of six alumni of the OYAGSB Master of Business Administration (MBA) programme, namely Ms. Zahiah Shadin, Ms. Suguna Ramasamy, Mr. Deneswaran Kalidasan, Ms. Tan Yee Fean, Mr. Lingeswaran Vengu and Mr. Abdirazak Mohamed Warsame received the Chartered Manager status from the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), United Kingdom.

This achievement is the result of a joint venture between OYAGSB UUM and CMI UK and is part of the added value for students who pursue the MBA programme at OYAGSB.

This status enables its recipient to make use of the ‘C.Mgr.’ title in the same way as other professional qualifications.

Ms. Tan Yee Fean said, “Personally, I gained a lot throughout the duration of my studies at OYAGSB. The OYAGSB MBA programme gave me a lot of exposure, in fact the industry experience that I gained from the teaching staff also helped to improve my skills in my career.

"Now, with the status as a Chartered Manager, I feel more confident in developing my career," said she who graduated at the 32nd UUM Convocation Ceremony and was the recipient of the CMI Leadership Excellence Award.

Meanwhile, the Director of the MBA Programme, Dr. Francis Chuah Chin Wei said the hard work of the students had finally come to fruition.

According to him, OYAGSB will continue to work to help MBA students who pursue their studies in the said programme obtain such status when they graduate.

The Dean of OYAGSB, Prof. Dr. Hassan Abu Bakar also expressed his elation with the achievement attained by six OYAGSB alumni.  He also expressed hope that the success would in turn attract more students to pursue their studies in the OYA GSB MBA programme.

The Chartered Manager Status (C.Mgr) is the highest professional recognition status in the field of management and leadership that can be awarded to a manager.

The status certifies managers who are skilled in management and leadership and are committed to continuous professional development.

The two-way collaboration between OYAGSB and CMI enables OYAGSB MBA students to not only receive a Master of Business Administration (MBA) Degree, but also obtain a professional CMI Level 7 Diploma in Strategic Management and Leadership.

Both of these certificates qualify OYAGSB MBA students to apply for CMI certified manager status.

UUM ONLINE: Pandemik Covid-19 yang melanda negara dan seluruh dunia ketika ini tidak menghalang pelajar Othman Yeop Abdullah Graduate School of Business (OYAGSB) untuk hadir ke Town Hall Meeting 2.0, baru-baru ini.

Town hall tersebut menjadi platfom untuk pelajar berinteraksi secara terus bersama pihak pengurusan dan pentadbiran OYAGSB dengan lebih dekat.

Dekan OYAGSB, Prof. Dr. Hassan Abu Bakar berkata, OYAGSB sentiasa terbuka untuk menerima teguran, pandangan dan cadangan daripada pelajar untuk penambahbaikan pada masa hadapan.

"Kami juga mengambil berat setiap permasalahan yang dihadapi oleh pelajar dan akan cuba memberikan yang terbaik untuk membantu menyelesaikan permasalahan yang dihadapi mereka,” katanya yang turut mengumumkan perpindahan sepenuhnya operasi OYAGSB ke Kuala Lumpur tidak lama lagi dan mendapat sambutan baik pelajar.

Terdahulu, OYAGSB telah menganjurkan OYAGSB Student Appreciation Day 2020 bagi mengiktiraf pencapaian, sumbangan dan sokongan pelajar-pelajar program Ijazah Sarjana Pentadbiran Perniagaan (MBA), Ijazah Doktor Pentadbiran Perniagaan (DBA) dan Ijazah Doktor Falsafah (PhD).

Majlis ringkas itu menyaksikan sembilan penerima anugerah bagi empat kategori iaitu Academic Excellence Award, Engagement & Participation Award, Publication Award dan Outstanding Student Award.

Penganugerahan ini diharap dapat menjadi pemangkin semangat dan sebagai motivasi kepada semua pelajar untuk terus berusaha mencapai kecemerlangan akademik serta terus bergiat aktif dan sentiasa memberi sokongan kepada program-program anjuran OYAGSB dan UUM.

Penerima Anugerah Outstanding Award, Larabi Chouayb berkata,  kejyaan yang dikecapi beliau itu adalah hsail usaha semua Profesor, pensyarah, tenaga pengajar dan doa ibu bapanya.

“I work so hard and in an intensive way. I attended more than 50 workshops between OYAGSB and SBM. I can remember in 2017, OYAGSB organized workshop each Sunday, and SBM organized workshops each Tuesday.

 

“My trip goes and back from OYAGSB to SBM and vice-versa is tiring but valuable at the same time. Attending all these workshops give me not only a competitive advantage among my peers, but also a wonderful relationship with the speakers. They are not only scholars, they are elites, and some of them are highly knowledgeable and expertise in their area,” kata pelajar PhD itu.

UUM ONLINE: For the first time, Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) through its Othman Yeop Abdullah Graduate School of Business (OYAGSB) has been listed in the QS World University Rankings (QSWUR): Global MBA 2021 at the 201+ position which in one fell swoop placed UUM as the 27th best university in Asia.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato’ Dr. Ahmad Bashawir Abdul Ghani said that UUM's aspiration of positioning OYAGSB as the Top Business School by 2025 has become a reality with its listing in the QSWUR.

"Indeed, I am deeply honoured and extremely delighted for OYAGSB's successful listing at the international level which has indirectly given recognition to the graduate school on the world stage.

"OYAGSB has its own reputation and quality, therefore I am confident it can elevate the UUM brand to a higher level," he said.

According to him, the achievement attained was the result of the remarkable hard work rendered by the denizens of UUM, particularly OYAGSB in its quest to elevate itself to a higher level.

The Vice-Chancellor also expressed hopes that this momentum can be continued and maintained in order to ensure that UUM can continue to move forward and be able to realize OYAGSB’s aspiration of attaining the Triple Crown status, apart from being crowned the Top Business School.

“It is also my fervent hope to see OYAGSB, together with UUM Kuala Lumpur Campus (UUMKL) and PACE will move together so that the aspiration of making UUMKL as the Crown Jewel of UUM a reality.

"This dream will definitely come true after OYAGSB successfully attains the AACSB and AMBA, followed by EQUIS by 2025," he said.

QSWUR Assessment: Global MBA 2021 adopts five (5) indicators categorized into five main categories namely Employability, Return on Investment, Entrepreneurship & Alumni Outcomes, Thought Leadership and Class & Faculty Diversity.

UUM ONLINE: Kuala Lumpur - "During this pandemic period we need to do all we can to survive and maintain a positive survival attitude so that after the pandemic ends we can achieve success," said Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz who is the Adjunct Professor at Othman Yeop Abdullah Graduate School of Business (OYAGSB).

She was speaking at the Biz Talk programme entitled, ‘Broadening Malaysia’s Business Horizon: Expanding Business Sustainability via Southeast Asia Community’.  According to her, in the new economic reality, many things must be changed and adapted according to the current situation of the COVID-19 pandemic.

She further reiterated that exploration in the field of information technology at this time will provide Malaysians, especially businessmen to discover and produce innovation. "China, for example, has moved rapidly towards information technology so much so that the people there when they want to buy fish, they would do so with the help of technology that is through purchasing goods via online.

"The question remains, are we ready to use information technology as a medium to continue online business?" said she while addressing important issues on the impact and challenges to expand the sustainability of Malaysian business, especially among the Southeast Asian community.

The former Minister of International Trade and Industry also shared her thoughts on the current issues and business developments in Southeast Asia, as well as providing new ideas and strategies in expanding Malaysian business in the international arena.

She also added that Malaysians need to change and move toward digitization and explore the latest trends in information technology in order to communicate and carry out tasks particular when the world is hit by the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to her, as entrepreneurs the time had come for them to build a network of cooperation with other parties. They also must move toward digitization, strengthening relevant proactive and innovative information technology knowledge. "Expand your view and do not be a frog under the coconut shell.  Get out of the comfort zone and get ready to change," she said, ending the programme organised by OYAGSB recently.

UUM ONLINE: Sumbangan Kertas Polisi Kelestarian Nilai Hartanah Negeri kepada Kerajaan Negeri Kedah membuktikan Othman Yeop Abdullah Graduate School of Business (OYAGSB) tidak melupakan tanggungjawab untuk membantu kerajaan tempatan.

Bertempat di Pejabat Setiausaha Kerajaan Tempatan Negeri Kedah, Prof. Dr. Mohd. Zaini Abd. Karim bersama Prof. Madya Dr. Zahiruddin Ghazali telah menyerahkan Kertas Polisi Kelestarian Nilai Hartanah Di Dalam Kawasan Banjir Dibawah Majlis Kerajaan Tempatan Negeri Kedah kepada Setiausaha Bahagian Majlis Kerajaan Tempatan Negeri Kedah, Mohd. Rizal Mohd. Radzi, baru-baru ini.

Prof. Dr. Mohd. Zaini berkata, dengan sumbangan ini, OYAGSB berharap ia dapat membantu Kerajaan Negeri dalam melestari nilai hartanah di dalam kawasan banjir melalui integrasi sistem perparitan dan bayaran pampasan bencana melalui insuran berkelompok.

“Kertas polisi ini juga dapat membantu Kerajaan Negeri Kedah mempertingkat nilai kutipan hasil pintu sejajar dengan peningkatan nilai hartanah di dalam kawasan pentadbiran kerajaan tempatan.” katanya.

Sementara itu, Dekan OYAGSB, Prof. Dr. Hassan Abu Bakar berkata, Resident Faculty OYAGSB yang lain juga diharap dapat terus berusaha untuk membuat penyelidikan yang tidak hanya digunakan dalam bidang pendidikan tetapi turut memanfaatkan pelbagai pihak seperti Kerajaan Negeri dan masyarakat setempat.

Sebagai rekod, Kertas Polisi Nilai Hartanah Di Dalam Kawasan Banjir Dibawah Majlis Kerajaan Tempatan Negeri Kedah ini diusahakan oleh Prof. Dr. Mohd. Zaini sebagai Ketua Penyelidik bersama Prof. Dr. Roslan Abdul Hakim dan Prof. Madya Dr. Zahiruddin Ghazali.
