UUM ONLINE: The Budget 2021 which was tabled recently is set to bring about immense benefits to Malaysians, particularly students studying at Institutions of Higher Learning when the broadband services are increased to the best possible level.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dato' Dr Ahmad Bashawir Abdul Ghani said during the recent tabling of Budget 2021, the government introduced eight initiatives to help students and the marketability of graduates.

Among them, the issuance of vouchers, improving infrastructure, implementing Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and Lifelong Learning programmes.

"Most interestingly, the communication network is considered as a third entity which plays an important role to the country in addition to water and electricity.

"Communication network will be intensified as a third utility in line with the government's efforts of allocating MYR500 million next year to implement the National Digital Network (JENDELA) initiative to enhance the country's digital network initiative covering more

than 430 schools throughout Malaysia," he said at the Presentation of Letters of Promotion to Academic Staff Ceremony at the Senate Room.

Eminent Management University.

According to him, UUM made history as many of its academic staff were being promoted. It also showed that UUM was maturing. The university would not have been able to develop to what it is now, had it not been for the help and support given by the fellow academics and administrators.

At the ceremony, a total of 30 academic staff namely Prof. Dr. Rosna Awang Hashim, Prof. Dr. Mohd Zaini Abd Karim, Prof. Dr. Nur Adiana Hiau Abdullah, and Prof. Dr. Shahimi Mohtar received their letters of promotion as Professor (VK6).

OYAGSB MBA PROGRAMME PRODUCES SIX ‘CHARTERED MANAGERS’ CMI

UUM ONLINE: A total of six alumni of the OYAGSB Master of Business Administration (MBA) programme, namely Ms. Zahiah Shadin, Ms. Suguna Ramasamy, Mr. Deneswaran Kalidasan, Ms. Tan Yee Fean, Mr. Lingeswaran Vengu and Mr. Abdirazak Mohamed Warsame received the Chartered Manager status from the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), United Kingdom.

This achievement is the result of a joint venture between OYAGSB UUM and CMI UK and is part of the added value for students who pursue the MBA programme at OYAGSB.

This status enables its recipient to make use of the ‘C.Mgr.’ title in the same way as other professional qualifications.

Ms. Tan Yee Fean said, “Personally, I gained a lot throughout the duration of my studies at OYAGSB. The OYAGSB MBA programme gave me a lot of exposure, in fact the industry experience that I gained from the teaching staff also helped to improve my skills in my career.

"Now, with the status as a Chartered Manager, I feel more confident in developing my career," said she who graduated at the 32nd UUM Convocation Ceremony and was the recipient of the CMI Leadership Excellence Award.

Meanwhile, the Director of the MBA Programme, Dr. Francis Chuah Chin Wei said the hard work of the students had finally come to fruition.

According to him, OYAGSB will continue to work to help MBA students who pursue their studies in the said programme obtain such status when they graduate.

The Dean of OYAGSB, Prof. Dr. Hassan Abu Bakar also expressed his elation with the achievement attained by six OYAGSB alumni.  He also expressed hope that the success would in turn attract more students to pursue their studies in the OYA GSB MBA programme.

The Chartered Manager Status (C.Mgr) is the highest professional recognition status in the field of management and leadership that can be awarded to a manager.

The status certifies managers who are skilled in management and leadership and are committed to continuous professional development.

The two-way collaboration between OYAGSB and CMI enables OYAGSB MBA students to not only receive a Master of Business Administration (MBA) Degree, but also obtain a professional CMI Level 7 Diploma in Strategic Management and Leadership.
