OYAGSB PROMOTES SUSTAINABILITY THROUGH ITS AWARENESS PROGRAM
Putrajaya. Othman Yeop Abdullah Graduate School of Business (OYAGSB) continues to cultivate the practice of 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) among its staff and interested participants by organizing an awareness program at Alam Flora’s Integrated Recycling Centre.
“Through recycling, the community can play an active role in helping preserve the environment.”
Alam Flora Environmental Solutions (AFES)’s Chief Operating Officer, Nazar bin Abdul Raof brief participants on the function of AFES and Alam Flora’s Integrated Recycling Centre in Putrajaya before walking the through the deferent recycling initiatives located withing the complex.
Residents can sell their recyclable goods from 10am to 5pm at the Alam Flora store, Jalan San Peng, Kuala Lumpur, and at the Buy-Back Centre, Precinct 9, Putrajaya.
Closer to Kuala Lumpur, two recycling centre (buy-back centre) in Kuala Lumpur have been upgraded as Drive-Through Recycling Centres (DTRCs) at Jalan Tiong Nam Mustering Point and Jalan Bunus 6 Mustering Point.
It is hope such programs will help in the development of OYAGSB’s sustainable initiatives and future planning.
OYAGSB STRENGTHEN ITS COLLABORATION WITH UKM SPECIALIST CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL
UUM ONLINE: Othman Yeop Abdullah Graduate School of Business (OYAGSB) continues to strengthen its collaboration and cooperation through CSR and Sustainabilty Programme with UKM Specialist Children’s Hospital (HPKK).
Recently, MBA students Mdm. Mardiana Ishak, Mdm. Mazlin Mohtaruddin, Chu Siew Yong, Ng Kai Yee, and Sze Tiing Tan, under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zaleha Othman, initiated the Book Donation for Mini Library and Distribution of Goody Bags at Paediatric Ward programme. The programme was carried out in order to fulfil the requirements for the OMMU 6013 course, which focuses on business ethics, CSR, and sustainability.
The Dean of OYAGSB, Prof. Dr. Abu Bakar Hassan, along with other OYAGSB staff members, also participated in the project. They were given a warm welcome by Datin Dr. Anita Sulong, the Deputy Director of HPKK, as well as other HPKK staff members.
The project involved donating books for a mini library as well as distributing goody bags in the paediatric ward. The goody bags contained milk that was sponsored by Farm Fresh, colouring books, and colouring pencils.
The project aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically SDG No. 4: Quality Education; and SDG No. 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities.
The book donation event aims to promote literacy and education among children in particular. As MBA students from OYAGSB, we are proud to have collaborated with HPKK on this meaningful initiative, and we hope that this will be an ongoing endeavour.

Petaling Jaya - Othman Yeop Abdullah Graduate School of Business (OYAGSB) terus menyokong Matlamat Pembangunan Mampan (SDG) yang diketengahkan oleh Pertubuhan Bangsa-Bangsa Bersatu (PBB) atau UN dengan sentiasa menerapkan nilai-nilai etika, kemampanan dan tanggungjawab sosial korporat (CSR) kepada pelajar.
Jelas sekali, usaha ini telah diterap masuk dalam dalam silibus kursus Ethics, CSR and Sustainability bagi program Sarjana Pentadbiran Perniagaan (MBA) di OYAGSB dengan penganjuran program khidmat sosial korporat (CSR) di Kebun Komuniti, Seksyen 3 dengan kerjasama penduduk setempat.
Ketua projek, Muhammad Khairul Mohd Dilif berkata, berkat usaha dan kerjasama pelajar dan OYAGSB, lebih 17 tapak semaian berjaya diusahakan dan ditanam dengan pelbagai sayuran seperti sawi, kangkong dan bayam.
Selain itu, menurutnya, pelajar-pelajar juga telah membersihkan kebun, mengutip sampah dan menyiram tanaman tersebut.
"Kami berterima kasih kepada OYAGSB dan pihak Kebun Komuniti atas kerjasama menjayakan program ini dalam usaha kelestarian aktiviti komuniti yang bertema ‘GO GREEN’.
"Kami juga telah bertukar-tukar pandangan dan idea untuk memajukan lagi Kebun Komuniti ini. Program sebegini diharapkan dapat diteruskan demi memastikan persekitaran yang lebih mampan," katanya.
Pada program itu, pelajar turut diberikan taklimat oleh Presiden Kebun Komuniti sebelum aktiviti dimulakan di mana beliau menerangkan bagaimana pada awalnya, penduduk di situ mengusahakan kawasan rumah terbiar untuk mengelakkan pembiakan nyamuk aedes, namun akhirnya menjadi satu aktiviti yang boleh mengeratkan hubungan antara mereka. Malah, hasil dari tanaman kebun itu juga dijual semula kepada penduduk dengan harga yang lebih rendah.
Kemudian, aktiviti bermula dengan penerangan oleh AJK Kebun Komuniti, Zaidah Mohamad berkenaan cara-cara menghasilkan tanah kompos.
Pelajar dan staf OYAGSB telah dibahagikan kepada kumpulan untuk satu tapak semaian bagi melakukan sendiri proses penghasilan tanah kompos. seterusnya diajar cara untuk melakukan semaian yang betul.

December 11, 2022 – Welcoming participants to the Othman Yeop Abdullah School of Business final triannual symposium for 2022, the OYAGSB Doctoral Symposium 3/2022, Associate Professor Dr Zaleha Othman Director of PhD & D.Mgmt addressed six students who took the opportunity to present their research ideas to an audience comprising a panel of reviewers, faculty members and students.
The small number of presenters during this sessions provided each participating student ample time for a friendly, supportive and constructive environment to present their research in progress for open discussion.
It is hoped that this program has helped students make good informed decisions about their research and ultimately help them achieve their goal.

Associate Professor Dr. Ahmed Rageh Ismail is an Associate Professor of Marketing and Management at the Othman Yeop Abdullah Graduate of Business, Universiti Utara Malaysia. He started him academic career in 2002 where he worked as a teaching assistant at the school of hospitality management in Cairo University. He received his PhD in management studies (marketing) from the Brunel Business School (BBS)- Brunel University – West London – United Kingdom in 2010. His main research and teaching interests fall into areas such as branding, sustainability, cross-cultural marketing, consumer behavior, value and ethics. He has published in the Qualitative Marketing Research: An International Journal, Journal of Fashion Marketing and Management, Asia-Pacific Journal of Marketing and Logistics, Young Consumers amongst others.

April 17, 2022 – Welcoming participants to the Othman Yeop Abdullah School of Business first triannual symposium for 2022, the OYAGSB Doctoral Symposium 1/2022, Professor Ts Dr Norazah Mohd Suki, Deputy Dean of Research, Innovation & Knowledge Transfer in her address emphasized upon the importance of the event in terms of contribution and impact on students. Six students took the opportunity to present their research ideas to an audience comprising a panel of reviewers, faculty members and students.
Following the deputy dean – Associate Prof Dr Subramaniam Sri Ramalu from the School of Business Management delivered his keynote speech on “An Examiner’s Expectation of a Doctoral Thesis”. This lead to more than an hour long presentation owing to the enthusiastic Q&A session ensuing and applouses from participants.
Rounding out the program, Professor Dr Wan Nordin Wan Hussin Deputy Dean of Academic & International Affair and Director of Accreditation, Rankings and Reputation Management thanked those who participated and OYAGSB hope that this program has helped students make good informed decisions about their research and ultimately help them achieve their goal.

Alumni Talk: The Journey to Smart Manufacturing
UUM ONLINE: More than 200 participants connected through WebEx and Facebook to attend the OYAGSB Alumni Talk ‘The Journey to Smart Manufacturing’ by an alumnus of OYAGSB’s Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) Programme, Dr. Veloo Doraisamy.
Dr. Veloo has over 40 years of experience in End-to-End supply chain management, product development, tooling operation, manufacturing operations management, business operation excellence and process reengineering and improvement. His last position was a Plant Director (GM) of an MNC in Penang.
He has also led more than 200 process improvements initiatives in the area of Business Process Kaizen, Shop Floor Kaizen, Value Stream Mapping and Problem Solving.
The talk was moderated by the Director of Alumni, Corporate Relations, Student Experience and Customer Care OYAGSB, Dr. Gunalan Nadarajah.
In the session, he stresses on the dilemmas that are faced by the Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs) either they should continue waiting and facing the possibility of being left out and losing to competitors. As such, he advised the SMEs to change and digitalized their operations to sustain in business.
He shared his experience of achieving 455 per cent productivity improvements and how he could bring down the product introduction lead-time from 35 weeks in 2010 to 14 weeks in 2019. He also 100 per cent digitalized the production floor by operationalizing ‘Automated Tool Manufacturing’ (Smart Manufacturing) using a pool of CNC Machines with lights out operation via Customized CADAM Programs, Linear Robot with Single Datum Management across all machining processes, Sequential planning and Material movement using RFID.
Dr. Veloo reiterated that smart manufacturing is emerging as a new version of intelligent manufacturing inflecting the magnitude and impact of smart technologies such as the internet of things, cloud computing, cyber-physical systems and big data on Revolution Industry 4.0.
As more manufacturers adopt smart manufacturing methods, there’ll be an increase in connectivity and data availability within their organizations. They are also realizing that a connected supply chain becomes a strategic competitive advantage in the marketplace.
“Reimagining our current ways, reinventing the future of tool manufacturing,” said Dr. Veloo before ending the session.

OYAGSB Virtual Open Day And BizTalk Attracts Audience To Discuss The Malaysian Economy Beyond The Pandemic
UUM ONLINE: Kuala Lumpur – Othman Yeop Abdullah Graduate School of Business (OYAGSB) recently held its first series of BizTalk programmes for year 2022 in conjunction with OYAGSB Virtual Open Day by featuring one of its Adjunct Professors, Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz.
The Dean, Prof. Dr. Hassan Abu Bakar said, since the onset of the COVID-19, this was the third Virtual Open Day organized by OYAGSB and this is one of the promotional method activities which had resulted in a significant increase in students’ enrolment over the last few trimesters. Additionally, this goes in line with continuing OYAGSB’s aim of being the Top Business School in Malaysia and the Crown Jewel of UUM.
The event started with the BizTalk entitled ‘The Malaysian Economy: Beyond the Pandemic’ by highlighting the mental health concern to all levels from the lowest level to the top management positions, as well as how the economy affected the business virtually that will determine the future of our country.
According to Tan Sri Rafidah, this might be not so important to some parties, but this is what the government precautious more. This trend continues to assist organisations in ensuring business continuity, particularly in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. In fact, the productivity level was greatly concerned when all thing became virtual including working from home, and running businesses and schools virtually.
The event continued with a briefing on Exploring OYAGB’s Masters Programme consisting of MBA and MBM programmes by Prof. Dr. Nurwati Ashikkin and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bahtiar Mohamad. Consequently, this was followed by Discovering OYAGSB’s Doctoral Programme which covered the DBA, D. Management and PhD Programme by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sabariah Yaakub and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zaleha Othman. The open day closed with the Becoming Our Student session by Ms Rozita Ramli, OYAGSB’s Assistant Registrar.
The insightful and fascinating session came to a close with a very interactive question and answer session. More than 200 people attended the event via Webex and OYAGSB's Facebook Live session.

UUM ONLINE: A total of 150 graduates of the year 2020 and 2021 were feted at the Othman Yeop Abdullah Graduate School of Business (OYAGSB) Graduation Hi-Tea held at the Seri Pacific Hotel Kuala Lumpur.
The event was also graced by the presence of the Chairman of the Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) Board of Directors, YBhg. Tan Sri Dato' Wira Dr Abdul Shukor Mahfar. YBhg. Tan Sri extended his heartfelt congratulations to all graduates who completed their postgraduate studies successfully during his speech.
“As graduates of OYAGSB, all of you serve as an incredible source of inspiration for your juniors. Undoubtedly, your accomplishment will serve as a benchmark for future UUM students. I hope your achievement enables you to integrate cutting-edge knowledge into your leadership and managerial roles. UUM ONLINE: Kuala Lumpur – The Othman Yeop Abdullah Graduate School of Business (OYAGSB) has been urged to become an institution close to the hearts of the people.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Prof. Dr. Haim Hilman Abdullah, who is performing the duties of Vice-Chancellor, said that in addition to pursuing excellence, OYAGSB and UUM as a whole must evaluate and identify ways to contribute back to the community.
According to him, the successful inclusion in the ranking was the result of the hard work and dedication of all university denizens to pursuing excellence through activities such as research and publications.
“OYAGSB must continue to work as a team so that one day the graduate school one day be the source of pride for the community and country, owing to the contribution made not only to the university but also to the community and country.
"Remember that the success of UUM is contingent not only on academics, but also on administrative and support staff. I believe that by working together, we can achieve greater success," he stated recently during the presentation of the Rankings by Subject Certificate to Deputy Dean, Prof. Ts. Dr. Norazah Mohd Suki, who represented the Dean at OYAGSB Studio.
Prof. Dr. Haim Hilman expressed hope that as the certificate handover series tour draws to a close, it will inspire all UUM residents to continue working as a team in pursuit of excellence.
OYAGSB was the final graduate school on Prof. Dr. Haim Hilman's tour of the Presentation of the Rankings by Subject certificate.
Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Hassan Abu Bakar, Dean of OYAGSB, stated via Webex that OYAGSB will always strive to be the best business school in Malaysia.
According to him, OYAGSB is now on track to achieve Triple Crown status after acquiring AMBA, AACSB, and EQUIS by 2025.
"I hope that the university administration will continue to provide unwavering support to OYAGSB in its pursuit of the Triple Crown.
"The success will not only raise the name of OYAGSB, but also UUM on the international stage," said the Provost of UUMKL.
Ms. Rozita Ramli, who represented the administrative staff, thanked the university for recognising the administrative staff's efforts and for its willingness to present the certificate.
According to her, the success was not the result of OYAGSB's efforts alone, but of a pseudo-party that played a role, particularly UUM's management.
She stated that without the strong support, it was certain that OYAGSB would not achieve that level of excellence.
"At the same time, we will work very hard to obtain EQUIS. In sha Allah, OYAGSB will realise UUM's aspirations, elevating the university's name to a higher level not only at the national level, but also internationally," she said.
In the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings by Subject 2022 for Business and Economics, OYAGSB was ranked 201-250.
In addition, a certificate of recognition for UUM's inclusion in the Top 100 QS World University Rankings Asia 2022 was also presented.
