Entry Requirements

Applicants for the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programme under OYAGSB and UUMCOB must possess:

1. a master’s degree from Universiti Utara Malaysia or any other institutions of higher learning recognised by the University Senate. For a master degree with CGPA, the minimum CGPA is 3.00; or
2. a bachelor's degree with CGPA of at least 3.67/ First Class or equivalent from Universiti Utara Malaysia or any other institutions of higher learning recognised by the University Senate and pass the interview conducted by the Postgraduate Committee; or
3. any other equivalent qualifications recognised by the University Senate; and
4. fulfil the English language requirement as set by the University Senate.

Additional requirement for PhD candidate under OYAGSB and UUMCOB:

1. The applicants should attach a motivational letter and research proposal (Guidelines to Writing a Research Proposal for Admissions).
2. The applicants must propose supervisors' name who have already agreed with the research topic.
3. For those who are short listed will be called for an interview session.

Financial Requirement

1. For sponsored applicant : Letter of Undertaking
2. For self sponsored :
   1. ASEAN countries: Minimum balance of USD2,500.00 in own account
   2. Non ASEAN countries : Minimum balance of USD5,000.00 in own account

All international applicants have to achieve a minimum score in any one of the specified English language requirements below which is equivalence to CEFR Mid B2.

a) TOEFL Score of 60 and above in the Internet Based Test

b) IELTS of Band 6.0 and above

c) MUET of Band 4.0 and above

d) Cambridge English Advanced Test score of 169 and above

e) Pearson Test of English Academic score of 59 and above

f) Linguaskill Online score of 169 and above

g) Occupational English Test (OET) score of 250 and above

Each application should enclose proof of payment of processing fee :

MYR100.00 (for local applicant); OR
MYR125.00 @ USD35.00* (for applicant from ASEAN Country); OR
MYR175.00 @ USD50.00* (for applicant from Non ASEAN Country).

*Payment in USD is only applicable for payment made from outside Malaysia
